COMMON SENSE READING GUIDE

Common Sense must be read by Wednesday, Jan. 30.
To guide your reading, look through the following questions:


1. How is Paine's view of government connected to his arguments for revolution?

2. Does Paine present a compelling argument for an American declaration of independence?

3. Discuss Paine's view of the connection between religion and government.

4. How do you think a loyalist would react to Paine's arguments?

5. How do Paine's opinions about human equality relate to his view of America's relationship with Britain?

6. Why does Paine think it is in America's best interest to be free
from Britain?

    Why are the last three questions the same as questions 2,3, and 4?
